According to a latest development, today one Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava has submitted a request to the PMO seeking postponement of JEE Main 2020, JEE Advanced 2020 and NEET 2020 exam dates. All these exams are scheduled to be held in September 2020.

Srivastava said in his letter that the JEE and NEET examinations that will be held in September 2020 should be postponed. He added that if it is not possible to postpone it, then students who are unable to give these entrance exams in September must be given a chance to appear at a later stage.

Earlier on 17^th August 2020, the honorable Supreme Court had dismissed pleas made by some parents to postpone JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 exams saying that postponement of JEE and NEET will put students' careers in peril. JEE Main 2020 is to be held online from September 1 to 6 while NEET 2020 for admission to undergraduate medical courses is slated to be held offline on September 13 across 161 exam centres in India.

Approximately 1 million students appear JEE Main examinations every year and even this year about 9,35,000 students have registered for JEE Main 2020 while close to 1.5 million students register every year for NEET to seek admission into undergraduate courses at medical colleges. This may be mentioned here that only about 12,000 seats are available across IITs whereas, only 50,000 odd seats are available for MBBS.

National Testing Agency has released new exam dates for JEE Main, NEET and JEE Advanced 2020 Exams

Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET 2020) will now be held in September. As a consequence, JEE Advanced too stands postponed. The announcement was released based on a report submitted by a panel of experts after considering the prevailing situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, the JEE Main 2020 Entrance Exam for admission to undergraduate level engineering courses will be held from September 1 to 6 and JEE Advanced 2020 will be held on September 27.

NEET 2020 will now be held on September 13. This is the second time this year that the exams have been postponed. Originally these entrance exams were to be held in April and May, this year respectively. 

JEE Main 2020 will be held from July 18-23 while medical entrance test NEET 2020 will be conducted on July 26 and JEE Advanced 2020 is in August

In continuation to our previous EduNews we let you know further that today our Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister announced the dates for JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 exams.

Nationwide Engineering Joint Exam JEE Main 2020 will now be held from July 18 to July 23 while medical entrance test NEET 2020 will be conducted on July 26. JEE Advanced 2020 is expected to be held in August 2020, dates of which are not decided yet.

Another important thing he mentioned that JEE Main 2021 and NEET 2021 are likely to be held on the reduced syllabus. The minister urged students to self-study with the help of online study materials (websites) to prepare for Medical and Engineering Entrance Exams. With low-connectivity areas, the content will be telecast through SWAYAM Prabha TV, he informed.

Over 9 lakh students have registered to appear for JEE Main 2020 and over 15.93 lakh have applied for NEET 2020, as per the National Testing Agency (NTA) – the exam conducting body.

The dates for JEE Advanced will be decided soon, said HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal through a webinar on 5the May’20 Tuesday. Only the top 2.5 lakh of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

While JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 were to be held in April and the first week of May, respectively which were then postponed to be held by May-end. JEE Advanced 2020 was to be held in 3^rd week of May. See latest update and new dates :

As many as 45 lakh students preparing for major competitive examinations scheduled over the next three months are stranded as the nationwide lockdown in the wake of corona virus outbreak has upset the examination calendar by at least a month.

JEE Advanced, JEE Main, NEET, UGC-NET, CSIR UGC-NET, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) scheduled in April, May and June 2020 will be affected by this lockdown.

Indian Government, NTA has notified that JEE and NEET Entrance Tests have been postponed to the last week of May keeping in mind the three week National lockdown due to Corona virus outbreak in India.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) whose marks are used for admission in Medical Colleges across the country was scheduled to be held on 3rd May. As of now NEET is proposed to be held in the last week of May’20, exact dates will be announced later after assessing the situation due to corona virus pandemic.

Similarly the Engineering Entrance Test JEE Main has been postponed till last week of may as per the official statement issued yesterday 27^th March’20 in view of the current situation prevailing in the country due to Corona virus outbreak. The exam conducting agency NTA (National Testing Agency) has released a notification in which it has intimated to candidates that the examination dates will be announced letter after assessing the situation.

NEET is held annually for admission to undergraduate medical courses MBBS, BDS and Ayush programs through this examination. Admission to veterinary courses are also done on the basis of NEET score.

JEE main is held for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, cftri Institutions funded by participating State Governments. The exam is held twice a year and candidates are allowed to appear for both these examinations.

As of now, both NEET and JEE have been postponed till further dates are announced by NTA. These examinations were scheduled to be held in April and May 2020. NTA is yet to announce about other examinations.

Medical Council Committee (MCC) releases list of eligible candidates to fill in the vacant MBBS seats left after NEET counselling 2019.

NEET counselling 2019: Among the vacant MBBS seats, several are in IP University, Delhi University (DU) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). In the ESIC Medical Institute as well several seats are left vacant and a separate list of candidates eligible for admission to these seats is released.

The Medical Council Committee (MCC) released the list of eligible candidates to fill in the seats left vacant after counselling rounds. Candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 and are yet to secure a seat can check the list at mcc.nic.in.

Among the vacant seats, several are available in the IP University, Delhi University and Aligarh Muslim University. In the ESIC medical institute as well several seats are left vacant and a separate list of candidates eligible for admission to these seats is released.

After conducting three counselling rounds for NEET - based admission, a final mop-up round was conducted earlier for vacant seats. A total of 2,004 students have been allotted colleges under mop-up round.

The counselling process for over 7 lakh candidates who qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 began in June. The qualifying criteria for this category are 50th percentile for the reserved category the minimum marks are 40 percentile.

For those who could not clear the exam this year, NEET 2020 is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2020 (Sunday). This is the second time the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the NEET. The application process will begin from December 2 and will close on December 31. Interested candidates can apply at — ntaneet.nic.in.

NEET 2019 Alert: 86 Examination Centres changed by NTA, check and download revised Admit Card

Update 04-May-19: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET 2019 has been postponed for the state of Odisha. It is confirmed. Students may please note that NEET 2019 examination has been cancelled for the examination centres in Odisha. The schedule for the NEET 2019 examination for all the other state, however, remains unchanged. For official notification visit ntaneet.nic.in. Students may please note that only the exam has been cancelled only for the centres in the state of Odisha. In case a student for Odisha, who is not currently in Odisha and has a centre in any other state, the examinaton would be conducted as per the schedule - which is tomorrow.

Yesterday, National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important notice regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET 2019 examination centres.

As per the notice, due to the General Elections to Lok Sabha and other unavoidable circumstances, some 86 examination centres have been changed by NTA. The revised list has been released on ntaneet.nic.in.

All students are advised to check and confirm whether he/she has been affected due to this change and accordingly download their revised NEET 2019 Admit Card from ntaneet.nic.in now.

Students who have been affected by the change are being informed via SMS, email or voice message by appropriate authority. The admit card link is still active. NEET 2019 is scheduled for this Sunday – May 5, 2019.

Students may please note that candidates would not be allowed to enter wrong examination centres nor would they be allowed to enter with old admit cards. NEET 2019 and JEE Mains 2019 complete schedules released by NTA - National Testing Agency

NTA (National Testing Agency) has released the Exam Dates, Registration, Modes of Exam and other details for NEET 2019, JEE Main I and II 2019.

The revised schedule for NTA NEET 2019 and NTA JEE Mains were released on 21^st August, 2018 by MHRD. Dates of registration, releasing admit card, exam date, modes of exam (format), results etc. of NEET 2019 and JEE Main 2019 are provided in the table below.

MHRD has decided against conducting the NEET 2019 examination twice next year. As per the earlier announcement by MHRD, NEET 2019 and JEE Main 2019 were to be conducted by NTA twice a year which has been changed now. Following a recommendation from Health Ministry, MHRD has scrapped the plan to conduct the examination in computer based format and twice a year. Now, NEET 2019 would be conducted on May 5, 2019 and the online application forms would begin from November 30, 2018. The results would be announced on June 5, 2019.

The forms for NTA JEE Main 2019 I would be released and begin from 1^st September, 2019. There would be no change in the proposal of conducting NTA JEE Main 2019 in online format only. The examination would be conducted in multiple sessions from January 6, 2019 to January 20, 2019 and students would have the option of appearing on any of the days by slot booking and NTA JEE Main II 2019 would be conducted in April’19.

NTA NEET 2019: New Rules and Changes

1. The only change for NEET 2019 is that the conducting authority has been changed. Till 2018, NEET for undergraduate medical and dental admissions i.e. NEET-UG was conducted by CBSE.

2. From 2019 onwards, the examination would be conducted by NTA. Candidates would be required to fill the online application forms on nta.ac.in. Details of how to apply for NEET NTA 2019 would be released when the forms are released on November 30.

Everything else for NEET NTA 2019 remains unchanged. For example:

1. NTA NEET 2019 examination would be a pen and paper test.

2. NTA NEET 2019 syllabus would remain the same as was the case for 2018.

3. NTA NEET 2019 eligibility is expected to remain the same.

4. As earlier, it will be conducted only once a year, which would be on May 5, 2019. 

5. NTA NEET 2019 would be conducted in all the 8 regional languages as well as in English, Hindi and Urdu.

Aadhaar not needed for NEET 2018 Application

The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday, 7th March that Aadhaar cannot be made mandatory for submitting National Medical Entrance Test NEET application form.

The court limited is interim order to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), through which students for undergraduate medical courses are selected.

NEET 2018 exam – which will be conducted by CBSE is scheduled to be held on May 6. The last date for submission of NEET 2018 application form is March 9. The court said CBSE should accept alternative proof of identity such as passport, driving licence, voter identity card etc. instead of insisting on Aadhaar cards.

Attorney-General K.K Venugopal, representing the Center, submitted that neither the government nor the Aadhaar issuer had asked the CBSE to make the card mandatory for NEET. The Attorney-General said the CBSE had on its own volition decided to insist on Aadhaar cards.  

However, in the same breath, Venugopal said the authorities had received complaints of a large number of impersonations for the NEET.

CBSE makes NEET a must for foreign MBBS, also disallow students of NIOS and other Private Boards

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a notification on Friday, 9th Feb 2018 on NEET 2018 introducing some new requirements and changes:

Students wanting to pursue MBBS or any other undergraduate medicine courses in foreign universities will have to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) from this year, 2018.

The notification also bars students paying out of open schools from taking NEET. This means students passing from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) will not be able to take the NEET 2018, to be conducted by the CBSE. Private students passing out from other boards are also not allowed to take the NEET.

"The ministry of health has decided that candidates who wish to pursue MBBS or BDS from foreign medical colleges and foreign medical colleges need to qualify the NEET," said the information bulletin issued by the CBSE.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) which regulates medical education said the provision of NEET qualification has been introduced to ensure that only meritorious students go for medical education to foreign countries. According to one MCI sources, "Indian students mostly go to former USER countries, China and the Philippines. When they come back, they appear in an exam to be able to practice. But less than 25% students qualify the exam to be able to medical practice. The NEET qualification will ensure quality to some extent."

An NIOS official said the students paying out of the institutions were allowed to take NEET till last year. The MCI sources said the NIOS students, who pursue education in the correspondence mode, did not have practical classes and so could not be allowed to appear for the NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test).

As per the CBSE notice to be eligible for NEET one needs to have studied physics, chemistry, biology or bio-technology in the past two years of their 12 - year schooling.

v   The state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have decided to offer the 15% all India quotas in medical colleges run by them. As the two states had earlier not participated in the programme, students from these states could not apply for admission under 15% quota in other states. Now that the two states have decided to implement the reservation, medical aspirants from these two states can apply for MBBS admission in colleges in other states under the all India quota.

v   The CBSE will hold the NEET in English and other regional languages like - Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

v   The results of NEET 2018 will be declared on 5th June 2018. NEET clearance is a must for all students seeking to study MBBS, BDS, and undergraduate medicine in India and abroad.

The Center is considering to conduct the Entrance tests (NEET, JEE Main) for admissions to undergraduate courses in medical and engineering twice a year from 2019.

The government is in the process of setting up a National Testing Agency (NTA) which may start its operations from 2019. The agency will take over all the entrance tests now conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). These entrance tests are NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for MBBS admission, the JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination Main) for B.Tech courses and the NET (National Eligibility Test) for selecting teachers eligible to be appointed in colleges and universities.

"The NTA (National Testing Agency) will initially conduct those entrance examinations which are currently being conducted by the CBSE ... Other examinations, tests will be taken up gradually after the NTA is fully geared up ... The entrance examinations will be conducted in online mode at least twice a year, giving adequate opportunity to candidates to bring out their best," HRD Minister of State Upendra Kushwaha said in a written answer in the Lok Sabha.

At present all these entrance tests NEET, JEE Main, NET etc. are held once in a year. If the proposal is passed, then from 2019 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) will be conducted twice a year by NTA instead of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). NTA will also locate the examination centers at sub-district and district levels.

The center communicated its decision to representatives of all the states in a video conference on 16th Oct'17 that from 2018 onwards UG medical (MBBS) aspirants will have the option to get question papers of NEET in regional languages too along with in English.

However, there seems to be still some dilemma of acceptance by some of the states in this regard.

Bengal government's action for NEET 2018

Bengal has dropped the plan to hold a separate medical entrance examination after the center said the common national entrance exam's regional language papers next year would be the translation of English version.

The national entrance-cum-eligibility test (NEET) this year sparked allegations that the NEET Question paper in English was easier than some of the regional language ones, including Bengali.

However according to Bengal education minister, the state is exploring all possibilities to keep medical aspirants of Bengal out of the ambit of common test for another year. He said the main intention behind this is to give the center at least a year to see whether they can develop a mechanism so that the students particularly from rural areas studying mostly in state board don't face problems which had happened in Tamil Nadu in NEET 2017.

The director of Bengal medical education Debasish Bhattacharya said he had written to CBSE board, which conducts NEET, on May 8 flagging the disadvantages students from Bengal had faced, the Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, had said in July that NEET question papers in regional languages would be a translation of the NEET Question paper in English.

According to the Bengal higher education departmental sources, the four students from the state who figured among the top 50inNEET 2017 were all from CBSE board.

Tamil Nadu government's action for NEET 2018

This would be important to mention here according to our sources, till now it is not clear what Tamil Nadu government would do following canter’s video conference of 16th Oct'17. Along with Bengal and few other states a representative of TN had taken part in that video conference.

The Supreme Court asked CBSE on 10th Aug to ensure the uniformity of NEET Question papers (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) in English, Hindi and all regional languages from 2018 to avoid complaint of unequal competition. The court, however, iterated is decision not to be set aside the 2017 NEET results or stay the ongoing counselling for medical (MBBS and BDS) admissions arose the country as it might disturb the process involving the careers of over 6 lakh students.

"We want commonality in exams and identical question papers in English, Hindi and regional languages (from) nextyear. We want you (CBSE) to consult experts and file an affidavit as to how you are going to implement uniformity of NEET standards," a bench of Justices  told additional solicitor-general Maninder Singh, appearing for CBSE.

On June 12,SC had cleared the decks for the declaration of this year's NEET results for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country, staying a Madras High Court order that had poor an embargo on the publishing on the ground that it would be subject to the final outcome of a batch of petitions filed by students challenging the exams. The students had claimed that the questions in Tamil and other regional languages were comparatively easier than those in English, alleging violation of Article 14 of the Constitution that guarantees equality.

Hence, SC pulled up CBSE for setting different NEETquestion papers in English, Hindi and regional languages. The court told senior advocate Indira Jaising, appearing for some students, that it would be difficult to disturb the admission process as over 6 lakh students had passed NEET this year.

The bench said if the questions are uniform across languages, it will help the students select the language of their choice. Justice Misra said that if the NEET questions are uniform, the evaluation of the students will also be uniform. He adorned the matter to10th October.
